Island life gets a dose of reality...

-

WELL talk about a storm in a D-cup…

You’d have to be living under a rock if you haven’t been aware that Love Island is back.

I have to admit I was one of those people who looked down my nose at the show. A few years ago I wouldn’t be caught dead watching it. But in the year of Dani Dyer and **** curiousity got the better of me. And after one episode I was hooked.

Yes, the villa is fully of impossibly good looking, tweaked and toned young people, and its history has been suspect in terms of caring for the cast, but there is something about the show that still makes it a ratings winner.

Like the Christians being thrown to the lions in Roman times, we know the outcome won’t be pleasant, but I for one am compelled to watch. However this week something happened that I didn’t like one bit. In fact it upset me quite a lot. One of the games involved the contestants guessing their partners biggest turnons and turn-offs. One fella didn’t like girls to have hairy arms, one of the girls liked being spanked. Nothing too startling there. But it all kicked off after Hugo – the seemingly sweetest guy in the villa, said that fake women were his biggest turn off. In both personality and looks. Cue much outrage and anger in the direction of poor hapless Hugo. Faye and Sharon in particular let rip, and the poor man ended up in tears, so upset was he at causing offence. Bear in mind that earlier that evening all the girls ‘fessed up to whatever work they had done, without much of a bother on them.

But after Hugo’s faux pas the reasons for them doing so came out, and it seems that it was to do with their insecurity about their looks and not just vanity.

But how was poor Hugo supposed to know that?

He’s allowed to be honest and say what he doesn’t like in the opposite sex.

The pile on afterwards was very upsetting to see, and especially since it was directed at the first person to enter Love Island who grew up with a disability.

Hugo overcame being born with a club foot and is now a PE teacher.

He could teach the girls a thing or two about what really matters.
