A SCOTTISH newspaper had Roberto Mancini mocked up as Braveheart on Saturday morning – and the Italy manager has now suggested that his team will go into the Euro 2020 Final suffering from little-man syndrome.

It will be English muscle against Italian artistry, according to former Manchester City boss Mancini.

He said: “The newspaper cover did make me chuckle.

“England are stronger than us physically right across the pitch.

“But the good thing is that you play football with the ball on the deck and we hope that we can do a better job on that score.

“We hope the attributes we possess will be more important qualities.

“And occasionally the smaller guy wins. That’s happened to us in the past and hopefully it will happen again at Wembley.” Giorgio Chiellini (below) was also on-message about refusing to talk up his side’s chances.

The Italy captain said: “It almost makes me laugh because I think England’s bench could have probably made it to the final on their own.

“They have some extraordinary players, who can’t get into the team.

“Thankfully, it’s not an individual game, it’s a team game.

“You can’t survive a final at Wembley against England without warm hearts – and nor can you do so without cool heads.

“There will come times when we need to be a bit more daring and we need to go for it.

“And there will also be times when we need to be a bit cooler and try to keep the situation under control.”

Italy will have around 7,000 fans inside the stadium – but Mancini hopes their voices can be heard when it matters.

He added: “Let’s hope we’ll be hearing our fans at full-time.

“During the game we need to focus on other things and think about creating chances, scoring goals and defending well.

“There is great passion for football in England, just as there is in Italy.

“England have been very unfortunate in past World Cups and European Championships.

“They have always boasted good teams, just as they do now.

“It will be a wonderful match, in front of a packed house, and I think that’s great for football lovers everywhere.”
