Frankly, my dear I do feel Forest damned

- JOHN WRAGG

FRANK CLARK will take up an invitation to watch Newcastle after being told he is not wanted at Nottingham Forest.

Clark, 78, won the European Cup with Forest and is shocked that his club ambassador job has been axed.

He has not been to a game since being made redundant and will not be at the City Ground today for the clash with promotion-chasing Fulham.

But he will take up an offer from former Newcastle team-mate Bobby Moncur to go up and watch the Toon.

Clark (above), who also managed Forest and ran the club as chairman, says he has lost his job to save money.

“It was a shock says,” Clark. “Our new chief executive Dane Murphy told me I was no longer required and cuts had to be made in the budget.”

He had been to every game, home and away, and said: “I’ve got friends in the Midlands. I’m sure I will be able to get to a game somewhere.

“I could ring up Forest and they’d find me a seat somewhere in the stand. But I won’t go to the City Ground in the immediate future, it wouldn’t feel right.”

The club said: “Frank Clark is much loved by all in the Forest family, thanks to his sterling service as a player, manager and chairman.

“Like all football clubs, unfortunately, we have to continually make difficult decisions concerning our operations. Frank is always welcome at the club and we hope to see him again soon.”

Clark’s other club, Newcastle, where he played 389 games, now have money coming out of their ears, following the Saudi Arabia-backed takeover.

“Bobby Moncur does hospitality there and he asked me a few weeks back if I’d like to go up for a game,” added Clark.

“I told him that I couldn’t because of my Forest job.

“But now I’ve not got that any more, I think I’ll take him up on it.”

The Seagulls conceded four goals for the first time in 43 Premier League games, since a 4-2 loss against Everton in October 2020.

All four of Manchester City’s goals conceded in the Premier League this season have come away from home and in the second half of those games.

City’s Phil Foden scored just his second brace in the Premier League, previously doing so against Burnley in June 2020.
