Raise yer Hatters!

- By RON LEWIS at Kenilworth Road

NATHAN JONES says he doesn’t mind if other clubs start looking at his Luton side as promotion contenders rather than perennial underdogs.

Elijah Adebayo’s first-half header was enough to see off struggling Hull as in-form Luton moved up to fifth spot.

“Let people say what they want,” said Hatters boss Jones (above).

“We know what we have, we know our own ambitions, it doesn’t matter what people think about us, but we’ve done nothing yet.

“First half, we were the better side. Second half, it was more even, and late on we really had to defend ,as they really had a go. Any win in the Championship is hard.”

Hull survived a scare after just four minutes when Luke Berry’s shot from point-blank range was blocked but then rolled onto the base of the post.

Luton took the lead after a smooth move down the left after 17 minutes.

Amari’i Bell ran at the Hull defence before playing in Fred Onyedinma, who cut back in before delivering to the far post, where Adebayo headed in.

Hull’s best chance of the afternoon was wasted on 74 minutes, after the ball had slipped away from Hatters goalkeeper Simon Sluga as he challenged Keane Lewis-potter, but Tom Eaves tried to pick out a teammate rather than shoot himself and the ball was cleared.

Hull manager Grant Mccann said: “It’s belief, it’s confidence, the forwards and midfield players probably feel that the weight of the world is on their shoulders at the minute.”
