HE CAN GIVE IT TO THEM STRAIGHT

Lyons’ star set to provide the winning Answer at Naas today

-

BY RYAN MCELLIGOTT STRAIGHT ANSWER can set the record straight in the Group 3 Goffs Lacken Stakes which headlines a quality card at Naas this afternoon.

This Ger Lyons-trained son of Kodiac was beaten by New York City when making his return to action at Navan last month.

That showing would suggest Straight Answer has something to find but it is worth recalling New York City has fitness on his side having won the previous month.

It is likely to be tight between the pair once more but Straight Answer is tipped to return to the form that made him such an exciting juvenile last autumn.

He looked a high class performer when bolting up in the Blenheim Stakes at Fairyhouse in September and a return to that level could make him hard to beat.

The card also features the Group 3 Coolmore Stud EBF Fillies Sprint

Stakes where Matilda Piccote can give Kieran Cotter the biggest success of his training career.

This filly looked very smart at the Curragh just under two weeks ago when she recorded a trail blazing success.

That win was achieved over six furlongs and while similar tactics will be harder to pull off at this level she is still likely to take some catching.

It was encouraging to note the form of the Curragh race received a boost when Comhra, the runnerup on that occasion, bolted up at Roscommon on Monday.

Meditate is likely to be popular here following her smooth debut success last month but the form of that Curragh race she won has since taken a few knocks.

The first of the day’s Listed races could also fall to the Ger Lyons team with Geocentric.

She was a very useful sprinting juvenile last season and showed

she had trained on well when running an excellent second to Romantic Proposal here last month.

If she turns up in that sort of form she cannot be opposed and can deal with Measure Of Magic who should come on from her reappearance at Cork last month.

Also worth a mention is Logo Hunter who was shaping up to be a top class sprinter last year.

He struggled on his comeback at Cork but he will have improved for that run and a strong challenge from him wouldn’t shock.

The other Listed race on the card can fall to Jessica Harrington’s Bopedro who has a good deal to spare on official ratings.

This gelding posted a couple of top class handicap efforts last autumn and looks good enough to make his mark at this level.

In the opener The Antarctic is taken to confirm the impression he left when making a winning debut at Tipperary last month.
