Wagatha trial shows we love to see our celebs red-faced

-

WAGATHA Christie has been grabbing the headlines because it’s so ludicrous.

Rebekah Vardy’s defamation claim against Coleen Rooney has showcased the grim reality of WAG land.

Everything and everyone in football can be sold out for profile, social climbing influence and money.

Whoever said it’s a fickle world was right. While soccer stars insure their legs, their wives it seems have too much time on their hands.

Some might argue they have no idea of what real life is, instead they live in their own virtual soapland where they are the stars.

Coleen accusing Rebekah of leaking private Insta messages led to a £3million show trial which proved irresistable fodder for the media.

If they had any sense they’d have donated the millions they’re forking out in lawyers’ fees to charity and shook hands on it.

Instead they opted to drag each others’ names through the mud – leaving the legal teams to laugh all the way to the bank – never mind the public having a good giggle.

The whole thing feels like a women’s bitchy Whatsapp group

gone wrong. But why has it gripped us so?

Maybe because it offered a view, albeit skewed, of how these pampered-ladies-who-lunch live.

Coleen didn’t bother turning up for the final day of the trial and in true Wag fashion did what she does best, went on a long haul vacation.

Her life is a permanent holiday but the stress of the trial, it seems, was all too much. Just like Love Island, reality courtroom drama can escalate into a dark space.

A tearful Rebekah told the court her former agent had been “driven to suicidal thoughts” by the proceedings.

And as their other halves rowed in Wayne Rooney gave evidence that Coleen had “really struggled” and become “a different mother, a different wife” from the strain of it all.

Jamie Vardy opted to give a media statement refuting this and insisted that Wayne was “talking rubbish”.

Way to escalate a feud guys. The trial captured the public’s imagination because admit it or not we can’t help but love it when the wealthy are left red faced.

It’s been juicy celeb goss tethering on a morbid fascination of seeing the rich and the privileged squirm.

You wonder if Coleen regrets her melodramatic whodunnit post that kicked the whole thing off.
