The Loving life in La La Land
Halina Watts down the showbiz rabbit
The Cannes Film Festival is where showbiz reporters’ dreams are made. I’ve been living it up on the French Riviera since I started at the Mirror in 2013.
For me, the best party was Pulp Fiction’s 2014 beach bash where I chatted to John Travolta, Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman.
I vividly remember trying to quiz the film’s producer Harvey Weinstein, who told me to: “F*** right off.” Luckily for me, I did!
I also partied with Leonardo Dicaprio at his villa and danced with Rita Ora and Naomi Campbell. I interviewed model Naomi as she turned 47, which she told me she couldn’t care less about.
And as I queued up for wine, Robin Thicke made it clear there were a couple of things about me which he found rather attractive. Um, no thanks!
Paris Hilton has always been a total sweetheart, producer Andy Loveday got me into the best parties while red carpet queen Lady Victoria Hervey helped me through many hungover mornings…
There’s no denying Hollywood has been good to me. At the 2018 Golden Globes I partied with Kate Hudson, Dakota Johnson, Elisabeth Moss and Mariah Carey. I also attended the Emmys and the People’s Choice Awards. But the Oscars have been my favourite event – in particular, Sir Elton John’s annual bash. It was there that Kenny Goss told me his late great ex George Michael had died of natural causes. A few weeks later, a coroner confirmed my story. In 2018, I also had an exclusive chat with Gary Oldman before he picked up the Best Actor gong. And every year without fail, the late Mary Wilson from The Supremes would give me her wristband so I could get in to the after party. The best.
