CATCH MARTIN’S 1-PUNCH KILLER

Family’s ‘heartbreak intensified’ because attacker is still at large

- BY SYLVIA POWNALL news@irishmirror.ie

THE sister of a man who died in a “one-punch” attack has appealed for information to help catch his killer.

Heartbroken Sharon Lynn wants justice for her brother Martin who was attacked as he got out of a taxi just yards from his front door.

It is understood Mr Lynn was assaulted by a motorcyclist as he emerged from a cab at Larkhill Road in Whitehall, Dublin, at around 4.30am on July 30.

The motorcyclist allegedly punched Mr Lynn once in the head before fleeing the scene.

The 33-year-old office administrator fell to the ground and hit his head, suffering catastrophic injuries. He died in hospital two days later.

Martin was so mild-mannered that it’s hard to believe that this could happen to him

Sharon told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “My goal is to draw attention to the fact that it was an unprovoked assault, not a ‘road rage’ incident or a ‘row’.

“Martin didn’t engage with the attacker at all and was such a mild-mannered person that it’s hard to believe this could happen to him.

“Our heartbreak is further intensified by the fact that the attacker has not been caught or come forward.”

Sharon will feature on tomorrow night’s episode of Crimecall on RTE One in the hope that it might move the investigation forward.

She said: “I did the Crimecall interview to make a public appeal to anyone who might know something.”

She urged people who live in the area to check any doorbell, dash cam or CCTV

footage they have and to pass any relevant information on to gardai. A garda spokesman confirmed there have been no arrests to date, adding that the investigation remains ongoing at Santry Garda Station. He added: “Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.” In the days after Martin’s death Sharon described him as “kind”, “funny” and “gentle” and said the family’s lives had been “shattered” after his death.

She added that the attack happened “just seconds away from the front door of our family home. A home where we had so many happy memories in a nice quiet community.

“A home that Martin lived in and felt safe in for 33 years. I cannot put into words the shock and devastation we feel.”

She continued: “Martin was a mild-mannered, funny, polite, and positive young man and never involved in any trouble or violence.

“Small in stature but big in heart. Martin didn’t stand a chance at the sudden and violent outburst.

“Our lives have been shattered… and I will not rest until justice has been served.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Santry Garda station on 01 666 4000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
