LETBY GETS FAN MAIL FROM SICK GHOULS

Fury as weirdos write to serial killer in jail

- EXCLUSIVE BY BEN TURNER benjamin.turner@reachplc.com

GHOULS are sending fan mail to serial killer nurse Lucy Letby.

Members of a warped Facebook group dedicated to the baby murderer boast of writing to the jail where she is held.

One woman member of the Nurse Lucy Letby Group wrote: “I’ve sent my letter off to Lucy.”

In an earlier post she claimed to have phoned HMP Low Newton, County Durham, where Letby is being held, for guidance on how to contact a prisoner.

Another woman who says she is a former NHS nurse added: “Please let us know if she responds. I am thinking of writing too.”

The web group hosts several controversial theories about Letby with many claiming she is innocent.

But some members are furious that letters are being sent to Letby. One wrote: “Are you lot for real? Why would you send a letter to someone who killed seven babies?”

Another woman commented: “Take time out to write a letter to a child serial murderer… that’s the one.”

Letby, originally from Hereford, is appealing against her convictions for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others in 2015 and 2016.

A 10-month trial at Manchester crown court heard she injected them with air and insulin while she was working as a neonatal nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital. The jury failed to reach a verdict on six counts of attempted murder. A judge will decide if there is to be a retrial at a hearing that is due to start tomorrow at the same court. Detectives are also reported to be looking into 12 other baby deaths at the Countess of Chester Hospital. A source close to the investigation told The Times last month that the medical notes for a dozen babies who had suffered unexplained collapses were passed to Cheshire Police. Letby’s trial heard she had a morbid fascination with her victims and searched for their families on Facebook.

Sentencing her last month, Mr Justice James Goss told 33-year-old Letby: “There was a deep malevolence bordering on sadism in your actions. “You have shown no remorse.” Letby – who refused to appear in court for sentencing – will never be released from prison after she became the fourth woman to receive a whole life sentence in the UK.

Serial killer Rose West, 69, ‘Peterborough ditch murderer’ Joanna Dennehy, 41, and the late Moors murderer Myra Hindley are the only others to face the same punishment.

Ian Carson, of the Prison Officers Association, said: “There aren’t any restrictions on sending letters to someone in jail. This type of thing happens all the time.”
