Macca: It’s all Kopsy turvy now

- BY ALEX WOOD

LIVERPOOL fans are facing a nervy season.

That is the warning from Anfield legend and former Real Madrid midfielder Steven Mcmanaman.

The Reds have won four of their opening five Premier League games and boss Jurgen Klopp has an array of top attacking talent on his books.

But the Anfield outfit have not looked entirely solid at the back, despite their promising start.

They went 1-0 down to Wolves last week before eventually winning 3-1.

And it was the same story last month as they stunned Newcastle at St James’ Park by bagging two late goals to win 2-1.

Mcmanaman reckons it will be a topsy-turvy few months on Merseyside.

“When you look at Liverpool, it’s clear to see that the way they play they’re going to score goals,” he said.

“But they are also going to concede them.

“They’re going to get interesting, exciting matches because they are very vulnerable at the back.

“When Trent Alexanderarnold pops into midfield, or Joe Gomez pops into midfield, they looked as if they could have conceded one, two or three against Wolves.

“It’s going to be a ride watching Liverpool this year because there are going to be lots of ups and downs.

“They’re going to concede goals aplenty.”

Liverpool struggled in the opening few weeks of last season.

They won just two of their first five fixtures of the 22/23 campaign.

But Mcmanaman has urged fans not to get ahead of themselves this time round.

“Last year, Liverpool had Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz out with long-term injuries, which people forget,” he added.

“You can’t compare like for like – Liverpool were a lot weaker. But I’m really glad they’re sitting near the top and not halfway down the table.”
