- By howard lloyd hampton by hilton Bath City

WHERE and why

Right smack in the middle of one of the most stunning cities in the country, this brand-new four-star hotel is a perfect base from which to soak up the UNESCO world heritage site’s key attractions, museums and parks. And many are just a short stroll away, as is Bath Spa Rail Station – only a 10-minute walk.

Opened just over 18 months ago, behind the facade of sustainably sourced Bath stone are 202 rooms in bright modern design with big comfy beds and tea and coffee making facilities.

ON THE MENU

A well-stocked buffet breakfast is served in the stylish, airy atrium lobby area. There are pastries, fruit, yogurt and cheese for those who prefer a continental start to the day or you can fuel up with a hearty full English and Hampton’s ever-popular waffles are hard to resist.

Although there isn’t a restaurant on site, the hotel’s brilliant central location means there’s no shortage of dining venues nearby, including the Doubletree by Hilton Bath on Walcot Street which boasts both a restaurant and cafe.

while YOU’RE THERE

With its glorious Georgian architecture, it’s no surprise Bath has featured as a backdrop to numerous films and TV series, most recently Netflix’s Bridgerton.

For a glimpse of Georgian life take a peek into Number 1 Royal Crescent, whose exterior featured as the home of Bridgerton’s Featherington family.

Trawl the high-end shops in fashionable Milsom Street, as well as the UK’S oldest department store, Jolly’s.

And after a tour round the fascinating 2,000-year-old Roman Baths, you might be tempted to take the waters at the Thermal Bath Spa, just a two-minute stroll away.

Further afield, the city of Bristol is a 30-minute drive, while the Mendip Hills and spectacular Cheddar Gorge, designated an AONB, are just 20 miles away.
