Gary’s Lions like lambs to slaughter
BOSS Gary Rowett accused his Millwall side of lacking fight against Swansea.
Jamal Lowe’s 23rd-minute spot-kick put the Swans in front after Jake Cooper pulled back Jerry Yates.
But there was no fightback from the Lions and Swans skipper Matt Grimes added a second with a 20-yard strike and substitute Mykola Kukharevych added a third as the Welsh outfit won on the road for the first time since April 22.
Millwall had 22 efforts – five of them on target – but keeper Carl Rushworth made vital saves to deny Duncan Watmore, Ryan Leonard and Kevin Nisbet.
Rowett said: “We just didn’t have that clinical edge when we got chances.
“Even at 1-0 I felt if we went on and got that next goal then the game would turn and change. We concede a pretty poor second goal and then from there I didn’t really like the way we responded.
“We’ve had a habit of conceding goals and showing our frustration rather than fighting until the last second of the game. It’s something that has been a hallmark of our recent performances.”
Swansea have recorded back-to-back wins to ease some of the pressure on head coach Michael Duff, who said: “You saw a bit more what we wanted to look like.
‘‘The first goal is 40-plus passes in the build-up to the penalty and I think it should’ve been a red card. The second goal is 20-25 passes in the build up.
‘‘We’re still a long way from where we want to be but there’s been a reaction from the Cardiff game, when we let everyone down associated with the club.’’
