Simms at double as he finds his feet

-

GOALS are like London buses for Ellis Simms. You wait forever and then two come along at once.

Coventry’s £8million signing from Everton had gone nine games without one before this game.

But he scored either side of a Josh Eccles strike to grab the Sky Blues their first win in eight.

And even though Kenneth Paal pulled one back, it was too little too late to leave QPR without a home win since March.

Coventry manager Mark Robins said: “The two goals that were scored by Ellis were brilliant.

“You can’t underestimate that finish for the second one. Exceptional. He’s been desperate to score.

“It’s taken nine for him to get on the scoresheet but that will do him the world of good.

“That should give him a load of confidence.”

It was not until after the break when Simms broke the deadlock.

Eccles then made it two on the rebound after Steve Cook blocked Matt Godden’s shot.

QPR were furious when Ben Wilson appeared to take out substitute Sinclair Armstrong on the edge of his own box.

But referee Tom Nield waved away their penalty appeals – and Simms then put it to bed with a finish from a Sam Field cross.

Rangers did pull one back through Paal but it was little more than a consolation.

QPR manager Gareth Ainsworth said: “Two things were not good enough today in the officiating – an offside goal and a stonewall penalty.

“I’ve been in to see the officials. They know. They’ve almost apologised.

“But also for 20 minutes there we seemed to collapse.” QPR: Begovic 6; Kakay 6, Cook 7, Fox 5 (Clarke-salter (5) 6); Smyth 6, Dozzell 6, Field 6, Paal 7; Willock 5 (Armstrong (61) 5), Chair 6; Dykes 6 COVENTRY: Wilson 6; Thomas 7, Mcfadzean 6, Binks 7; Latibeaudiere 6, Eccles 6, Kelly 7, Dasilva 6; Allen 6 (Ayari (79) 6); Simms 8 (Wright (79) 6), Godden 6 STAR MAN: Ellis Simms – Gamechanger with his two goals for the Sky Blues.
