AJ makes BB history
Tonight, AJ Odudu will make history as the first Black presenter of Big Brother in the show’s history. And the former Strictly star has revealed that she only agreed to sign up if ITV bosses recruited a more diverse range of housemates than in previous years. Speaking ahead of tonight’s launch, AJ says: “I just wanted to confirm that the channel and the production company were well aware that the world has changed – and that it needed to be represented in the house and on our screens. “I wanted to know if the house would be accessible by lift. I didn’t want anyone in a wheelchair not being able to get up into the house and live in there. “I wanted to make sure that everyone feels represented and celebrated in the comeback of this show and that no one would be discriminated against for whatever reason. I didn’t see anyone like me presenting big shows when I was growing up. I will literally be the first Black presenter of Big Brother. “I don’t take that sentiment lightly. I think it’s amazing – and a great honour.” AJ and her fellow host Will Best will be taking the reins from Emma Willis, Brian Dowling, Rylan Clark and Davina Mccall, who have all given the pair their blessings. AJ adds: “Davina got in touch to say she was excited for the new series and that we would smash it. “And Emma is a really good long-time friend and has been so supportive of me and Will. “She was actually my biggest cheerleader in the run-up to getting the job when no one knew. She was really supporting us both, which is so lovely. “Rylan is also all about the positive vibes too.”
