Bayo nets as Bulut hits out at players

- By DELME PARFITT REF:

CARDIFF CITY boss Erol Bulut accused his players of not working hard enough after they faded against Watford.

The Bluebirds were ahead through a Mark Mcguinness volley from a corner in the 26th minute.

But the Hornets deservedly equalised in the 54th minute through Vakoun Bayo.

The striker capitalised on a howler by Cardiff goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, whose dreadful control of a Mcguinness back-pass let Bayo in.

Bulut said: “The first 35 minutes was good, but I don’t know what happened afterwards. We totally changed. I am satisfied with the start of the season, but not with today.”

While the Alnwick incident was painful for the hosts, it was no more than Watford deserved.

They improved markedly in the second half, enjoying more possession and creating the better opportunities.

Cardiff were unable to fashion clear opportunities after Watford levelled and did nowhere near enough to win the contest in Wales.

After chalking up four successive league wins with a 2-0 success against Rotherham last weekend, the Bluebirds’ progress has been checked.

Asked about Alnwick’s howler, Bulut said: “We played too many balls back to the goalkeeper.”

Watford boss Valerin Ismael said: “We should have won, no doubt about that.

“The mentality in the second half was very good and we did not concede any chances.

“The goal we conceded was incredible, just too easy. But we kept fighting.”
