Russ rage after fan’s complaint
RUSSELL MARTIN confronted a furious Southampton fan after dropping points to lowly Rotherham.
Saints were booed off despite boasting 80 per cent of possession, having 22 shots and playing the Millers off the park.
The anger came as Jordan Hugill climbed off the bench to grab Rotherham’s first away point of the season.
One supporter was particularly mad at Martin and the ex-swansea boss bit back.
“A guy at the end booing and going absolutely crazy, I understand his frustration but you’ve just watched such a dominant performance,” said the Saints manager.
“I’m as frustrated as you are that we haven’t won but I’m not sure the players deserved the vitriol so I said something to him.
“We should have nine points from the three games this week and be in the top six, and I’m frustrated for everyone.
“It’s important we had a good week, that we are moving forward and we are going to improve from here.”
Martin wasn’t the manager under pressure before the match – that was Rotherham’s Matty Taylor with his side 23rd in the Championship.
When Stuart Armstrong tapped in the opener, Taylor sensed the axe looming over his head – only for Hugill to save his job with a wonder goal.
Taylor said: “We somehow managed to stay in the game in that first half.
“It was difficult and we rode our luck at times and had to give ourself a chance in the second half – and we did that.
