All this sex talk will DISGUST my hubby and teenage boys

Amanda set to lay love life bare at stand-up comedy gig

AMANDA Brunker has revealed her husband will be “disgusted” by her saucy debut stand-up comedy gig.

The telly favourite is panicked that the sexy content of her new stage show will be a turn-off for her hubby – and horrify her teenage sons.

The Champagne Kisses author, 49, told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “I’m going to be talking about sex as I put that in all my books.

“There’s a lot of talk of being old and how funny sex can be in my set.

“But people are a lot kinkier than me and a lot dirtier, I’m vanilla compared to many.”

The former Miss Ireland has been in the public eye for decades since she won the contest in 1991 – but husband of 20 years Philip Mclaughlin shuns the spotlight.

Amanda quipped: “My husband doesn’t like being talked about so he’ll be disgusted.

“I’m trying to keep the focus on me, as I don’t want to upset anybody.”

Mum to Setanta, 16, and Edward, 17, she said her sons will be mortified by her antics.

She added: “I can’t imagine my sons are impressed... I’m expecting them to give out to me.

“They don’t like their mum going out.

“I’ve one son who’s like a 1950s husband, he just wants me in the kitchen.” Taking a swipe at life as a middle-aged woman is the premise of her comic set which she brings to Whelan’s, Dublin, on Monday, November 6.

She said: “It’s autobiographical, I’m kind of like a female Victor Meldrew.

“I poke fun at my life. It’s an insight into my mad brain.”

Playwright Amanda got rave reviews for her play Curiosity which premiered in September.

Starring Fair City’s Sorcha Furlong and Amy Kirwan, its success inspired the funnywoman to take the leap to perform herself.

She added: “I’ve MC’D for 100 years but I’ve never done stand-up.

“It’s easy to pen something for other people to perform. It’s the lazy man’s way to comedy.

“I wanted to get out of the house again because I’m so claustrophobic and so bored of the monotony of everyday parenting.

“So I thought let’s try something new, I just thought, ‘Feck it, what’s the worst thing that can happen – people won’t find me funny?’.

“I’m piggy-backing off the back of Deirdre O’kane and some other great comedians who will be performing on the night too.

“I used to be bulletproof with confidence as a young one because you’ve nothing to lose but then you get a bit older and a little more self-conscious.

“I find my comedy funny, so if I only entertain myself and a few others it was worth doing, it was a good night out.”
