ELIJAH LEVELLER LEAVES CHRIS CROSS

- AT THE CITY GROUND

CHRIS WOOD was left cursing his luck as supersub Elijah Adebayo snatched victory from Forest’s grasp.

Wood’s double strike seemed certain to clinch victory for the home side until the Hatters staged a remarkable last-gasp recovery.

Forest were set fair and looking good for all three points when they inexplicably tossed it all away.

Chiedozie Ogbene grabbed what looked like nothing more than a consolation goal in the 83rd minute when Forest failed to deal with a free-kick.

The ball ended up striking Harry Toffolo and when it fell into Ogbene’s path he made no mistake, smashing the ball into the net.

Luton had to put up with the agony of a VAR ruling and – to be fair – he should have been deemed offside by the letter of the law.

Even then Forest couldn’t have imagined what was in store when they messed up again two minutes into the eight added on. Again, they were their own worst enemies, with sub Joe Worrall getting muscled off the ball far too easily by Adebayo.

And the Luton sub pounced on his chance and struck home a sweet shot to give his side a valuable – and unexpected – point.

Forest were shattered, especially when Wood thought he’d grabbed a winner a few minutes later, only to be ruled offside. He had to settle for what had gone before – a cool 47th-minute goal to put Forest in front and double his tally to the season at the same time.

Wood should have added to that minutes later but headed over from just eight yards.

But when he did power a header home in the 76th minute that really should have been more than enough to secure Forest their third win of the season.

Steve Cooper’s men were cruising and no one in the ground could have seen anything but a home victory.

But for all Luton’s shortcomings, they don’t give up – and they made Forest pay for taking their eye off the ball.
