Cool Coburn doubles up for Carrick

- VITAL: Greenwood hit Boro’s third goal MATT BAMSEY

MICHAEL CARRICK warned there is more to come from Josh Coburn after his double helped Middlesbrough maintain their 59-year unbeaten league record at Home Park.

The striker fired Boro in front before goals from Bali Mumba and Finn Azaz turned the game in Plymouth’s favour.

Coburn hauled Middlesbrough level after the break before Sam Greenwood sent the visiting fans into raptures.

But Morgan Whittaker (below) rescued a point for Plymouth, who have now gone eight league games without a home league win over Boro.

Boro boss Carrick said: “Josh has been ready and waiting to score goals and I am delighted for him. We know what he is capable of and there is loads more to come from him. He has improved since he came back and it was a good day for him in front of goal.

“It feels like a defeat as we did enough to win the game.”

Carrick’s side went in front in the 23rd minute when Coburn stuck out his right foot to tuck away Lukas Engel’s cross at the near post.

But the Pilgrims hit back in the 34th minute when Azaz slipped in Mumba, who swept the ball past Seny Dieng for his first goal since the opening day of the season.

Mumba turned provider in the 38th minute when he teed up Azaz who dispatched the ball into the top corner.

Boro were awarded a penalty on the hour mark when Dan Scarr tripped Greenwood. Coburn’s spot-kick was saved by Cooper but the rebound fell kindly and the giant striker tapped home the equaliser.

The game swung again in the 64th minute when Crooks pulled the ball back for Greenwood to fire into the corner.

But there was time for one final twist when Whittaker’s free-kick sailed over everyone and bounced into the far corner.

Plymouth manager Steven Schumacher said: “We showed we are a match for anyone in this league.”
