THE daughter of slain Jason Corbett has had an emotional reunion with the US police officer who shielded her from the horror death scene.

Sarah Corbett, now 17, shared a photograph on social media of her meeting with Clay Dagenhart, who carried her from the house the night her dad was killed eight years ago.

She posted: “Finally got to meet and say thank you to this man who shielded me and carried me down the stairs that awful night.

“Clay Dagenhart. Thank you to all who helped me, my brother and Dad.”

Jason’s family will fly home from the US this weekend after Molly Martens, 40, and her ex FBI agent father Tom, 73, were sentenced for his manslaughter.

Their convictions for second degree murder were quashed on appeal in 2021 and they were this week sentenced to between seven and 30 months with time served taken into account.

Jason, 39, was found lying in a pool of blood with severe head injuries in the bedroom of his home at Panther Creek in North Carolina on August 2, 2015.

He had been beaten with a metal baseball bat and a concrete paving slab, with his children Jack and Sarah asleep in bedrooms upstairs. Deputy Dagenhart was the first officer on the scene. He told jurors at the 2017 murder trial he and a colleague went upstairs to find the children. The court heard how he lifted Sarah into his arms and told her to close her eyes so she would not see the trail of blood from her father’s body being gurneyed out.

At this week’s sentence hearing in Lexington Assistant District Attorney Alan Martin broke down as he delivered his closing arguments. He said it was “a miracle” the two children, then aged 10 and eight, did not witness the horrific scene.

Blood was spattered on the carpet, walls, ceiling and furniture. The court heard bits of the victim’s scalp were torn off and his skull was so badly shattered that pieces fell out as the body was being moved for postmortem.

Mr Martin said: “It is nothing but a miracle that these two children do not have the sights and sounds of that night seared into their brains. Nothing but a miracle.” Molly Martens, a former beauty queen who met the Corbetts when she worked as their nanny, is on suicide watch after being sent back to jail.

Thank you to all who helped me my brother and Dad
