Music legend to Cher new songs

Singer plans major pop comeback in 2024

Cher recently made history as the first female star to have a Billboard No.1 for the SEVENTH decade in a row.

And the pop icon has no plans to stop there, as she is due to start work on a new album and is in talks for a new tour. Speaking at London’s Odeon Luxe, Cher admitted: “I haven’t made anything for a long time, and Alexander [Edwards, her music exec boyfriend] said to me: ‘Why aren’t you singing?’ “I said, ‘I don’t know, I wasn’t inspired’, and then he brought me some songs that were really great that I’m gonna put on this album I’m about to do. “I’m in the groove and I might as well do it because I really forgot how much I love singing. I’m going to start it in February.” When asked by radio hosts Harriet Scott and Ken Bruce if she would be taking to the road again, Cher nodded and said: “We’re talking about it now.” The admission comes after we revealed the music legend was poised to announce a series of concert dates in Las Vegas. Prior to her latest album, Cher Christmas, the singer had not recorded any new material for five years – but now she seems to be on a roll. And she had fans at the Odeon in stitches with her straight-talking attitude and incredible anecdotes – including the moment she stuck two fingers up at the Oscars with her revenge dress (“As you can see, I got my manual on how to dress as a serious actress.”) Cher also admitted that in the future, she’d love to see an Abbastyle avatar of herself – but hates the idea of AI imitating her. She said: “I’ve worked my whole life to be who I am… I don’t want some machine doing me.” And when asked about future collaborations, she named Sir Elton John as the artist she’d most like to work with in the future. Cher said: “I’ve known him since he first got to America and we’ve been friends ever since. I’d love to sing with him.” Over to you, Elton…

A source close to Harry and Meghan told us: ‘This is truly incredibly unfortunate. There’s no upside here for anyone’

Meghan, whose mum Doria is Black, alleged a senior royal had raised “concerns” over how dark Archie, now four, would be in a private conversation with Harry.

The interview caused a massive storm – with some backing the couple and others saying it was a normal discussion in mixed raced families.

The Oprah interview prompted an unprecedented statement from the late Queen, which included the now famous line: “Recollections may vary.” Valentine Low, former royal correspondent for The Times, told in his book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, how Kate was central to the inclusion of the phrase as the race row threatened to destabilise the monarchy, saying to aides: “History will judge us.”

Last night a source close to Harry, 39, and Meghan, 41, expressed dismay at the latest row, saying: “This is truly incredibly unfortunate...there’s no upside here for anyone.” Another source close to Meghan insisted she “never intended them to be publicly identified” and it “was not leaked to Scobie by anyone in her camp”.

Scobie – who also co-wrote the Sussexes’ book about leaving the royal family, Finding Freedom – claimed the inclusion of the names was an error and not a publicity stunt. They are not named in the English version but the

Dutch translator insists they were in the manuscript she was sent. The Dutch publishers have said it was an error.

Royal sources said there had been “collective outrage” over the “mendacious slur”. Buckingham Palace is said to be considering all options,

including legal action. Sources say Charles is taking the matter very seriously. The King, who is spending the weekend at Sandringham in Norfolk after flying back from the Cop28 summit in Dubai, will discuss it with senior advisers in the coming days.

Insiders say the royals have been buoyed by sympathetic reaction, including Sir Trevor Phillips, former head of the Commission for Racial Equality, calling it a “nonsense story”.

Endgame is on Amazon, already at a discount, with free returns.

Among a raft of one-star reviews, a UK reader said: “I feel ashamed that I bought it but wanted to see just how awful it is. I am not disappointed.” Another said: “Rubbish...a fairy story.”
