KIERAN MCKENNA was left gushing over Wes Burns’ wonder strike as Ipswich beat Coventry.

The Welsh midfielder hit a superb goal with the outside of his left foot late in the first half.

Ipswich are a point behind Leicester at the top of the Championship, but had to deal with a late Sky Blues goal and missed penalty.

Boss Mckenna could not hide his admiration for Burns’ incredible finish.

He said “It was probably my favourite goal since I got here.

“It was world class and you won’t find a better outside leftfoot finish. The move that led to it, as well. I could see every bit of us in the way the players were moving.

“Wes has got a really good left foot and we’re always encouraging him to use it more for inswinging crosses.”

The hosts had the perfect start after six minutes, when George Hirst broke free to slot past Brad Collins.

Burns doubled the lead on 41 minutes with his beautiful effort, his connection with the outside of his boot nestling into the top corner.

Coventry blew a lifeline on 72 minutes from the spot, after Tatsuhiro Sakamoto was fouled by Harry Clarke. Matt Godden stepped up but blasted his effort off the crossbar.

An own goal by Brandon Williams was the last action of the game, as Ipswich recorded back-to-back wins.

Coventry boss Mark Robins said: “The penalty obviously came and went, it’s hit the underside of the bar – it’s one of those things.

“For me, we were growing into being a really good team.”
