Lob job Wes part of plan – Ismael

-

WATFORD captain Wesley Hoedt’s sensational 40-yard winner was described as a “miracle” by Hull boss Liam Rosenior – but Hornets gaffer Valerien Ismael reckoned it was no accident.

Instead he felt they punished the risky positioning of Hull’s goalkeeper Ryan Allsop.

Hoedt unleashed an audacious effort after dispossessing Liam Delap and spotting Allsop off his line.

Ismael said: “We know some teams play with high risk – they take risks with the positioning of the keeper.”

Rosenior said: “I can’t remember in my career, as a player or in coaching, feeling this way after a game.

“I’m so happy with so much and we ended up losing. They scored an absolute miracle goal.”

Veteran goalkeeper Ben Hamer was another hero for improving Watford, saving Jaden Philogene’s penalty while it was 1-1.

Watford midfielder Jake Livermore – a popular Hull player in their Premier League days – gave away the spot-kick. Hull had won three in a row at home before this setback while Watford had only won once away this season.

The visitors struck first when Jamal Lewis’ cutback allowed Edo Kayembe to strike.

The home side equalised when Delap burst forward and was tackled by Hoedt but Scott Twine lashed in from 16 yards.

Philogene blew his penalty chance on the hour after Jacob Greaves had been fouled.

That was costly when Hoedt struck in spectacular fashion.
