Farage in Black slur recording

- EXCLUSIVE BY JOHN STEVENS Political Editor

NIGEL Farage was caught on tape talking about “Black Africa” and seemingly used the term to describe election corruption, it has emerged. The former Brexit Party leader said it at the end of a podcast during the 2019 general election campaign after the right-wing press demanded he avoid placing his candidates in Tory-held seats. Taking aim at the then editor of the Daily Mail, Geordie Greig, Farage said: “I think the way Geordie is behaving is verging on Black Africa… the intimidation of candidates. It is not pretty.” The recording was made a day after Mr Farage withdrew Brexit Party candidates in 317 seats the Tories had won at the previous election.

DIVISION

Black Africa is an outdated term for countries south of the Sahara where Black people are in the majority.

Georgie Laming, campaigns director at pressure group Hope Not Hate, said: “We have long known that Farage stirs up division for his own gain.

“So long as he remains in the spotlight, Farage must be called out.”

In the jungle, the politician has clashed over race with Youtuber Nella Rose. He also dismissed suggestions Black people do not like him due to his views on immigration, saying: “They do. If you came with me through South London, you’d be astonished.” While discussing cultural appropriation and the Jamaican patois pronunciation of water with campmates, Farage also complained that a white person doing a Black accent is “considered to be a crime”. Last week, the ex-mep’s girlfriend Laure Ferrari said claims he is racist “couldn’t be further from the truth”.

It has also emerged that Farage is using his job as a presenter on right-wing TV channel GB News to boost his chance of winning the series.

He has pre-recorded a selection of videos telling fans how to vote.

In one, he pleads: “I’m asking you to vote remain… no, seriously – vote for me to remain in the jungle.”
