Ryan will settle for the point

- JON WEST

FRUSTRATED:

RYAN LOWE saluted his Preston players for ending a three-game losing streak.

Ninth-place North End revived their play-off hopes thanks to a battling point on the road.

It wasn’t pretty but boss Lowe, who has just completed two years in charge, wasn’t fussed.

He said: “We have come away with a fantastic point after losing three on the bounce, which was obviously not nice.

“The lads were determined to make sure they put it right and they have.”

Norwich were the better side in a dull first half. Marcelino Nunez fired narrowly wide before Onel Hernandez sent a tame effort at keeper Freddie Woodman.

Then Liam Lindsay blocked on the line to deny Christian Fassnacht on the half-hour mark.

Almost an hour was on the clock before Preston responded with a Brad Potts header that went just wide before he seized on a bouncing long ball to blast a rocket just over.

Ben Whiteman almost broke the deadlock at the other end a minute later after Gunn punched straight to him.

But the midfielder’s shot pinged back off the bar and the ball was cleared.

City’s best chance came in the 76th minute but sub Liam Gibbs side-footed wide after Gabriel Sara had set him up.

Norwich boss David Wagner said: “There would have been no complaints had we won.

“You will not create nine or 10 clear-cut chances, but we created two or three and these are the moments when you have to kill the game.” NORWICH: Gunn, Stacey (Fisher (72) 6), Duffy, Mclean, Giannoulis (Placheta (81) 7), Gabriel Sara, Nunez, Fassnacht (Rowe (56) 5), Barnes (Gibbs (55) 6, Hernandez (Sainz (71) 7, Idah PRESTON: Woodman, Potts, Storey, Whatmough, Lindsay, Hughes (Brady (88) 5), Mccann (Ledson (88) 5), Whiteman, Browne, Evans, Millar (Holmes (63) 6), Cornell, Best REF: Oliver Langford 6
