Caretaker Sheehan sweeps in with the winning formula

-

INTERIM Swansea boss Alan Sheehan celebrated victory thanks to Jerry Yates’ late strike against 10-man strugglers Rotherham.

Just days after the sacking of Michael Duff, the Swans secured a muchneeded first win in six Championship games.

Sheehan said: “It’s a great way to end what’s been a difficult week.

“There was a real feeling of proudness with everyone coming together. That helped galvanise us towards a big victory.”

The Millers had gone down to 10 men after only 17 minutes as centre-back Daniel Ayala was shown two quickfire yellow cards.

And the Swans bossed the remainder of the first period but didn’t break through until added time when Jamal Lowe’s header appeared to flick off the back of Charlie Patino before squirming under Viktor Johansson.

The Millers evened it up just past the hour mark when Sam Nombe bundled home Sean Morrison’s long throw-in.

However, less than 10 minutes later substitute Yates provided the winning finish when he pounced on a poor attempted clearance by Lee Peltier before slotting past Johansson.

The Millers sank to the foot of the table and interim boss Wayne Carlisle said: “The sending-off completely changes the course of the game.
