Adkins saved by a Jennings gem

NIGEL ADKINS believes there is now momentum building at Tranmere after seeing his team came from a goal down to beat Newport on a stormy afternoon at Prenton Park.

A Connor Jennings strike with just two minutes remaining secured all three points after Kieron Morris had cancelled out Will Evans’ first-half opener for Newport.

Rovers are now unbeaten in their last six matches, including taking 11 points from a possible 15 in the league, having previously lost six on the trot.

Adkins said: “It was a special day and I think it was more than a win really, we’ve got a real momentum going now.

Grimsby 2 Crewe 1

DAVID ARTELL reckons there is more to come from Grimsby after picking up his first win against his former club. Abo Eisa and Danny Rose scored for the home side as Crewe replied through Joe White.

Artell said: “It wasn’t vintage football from either side, but there were glimpses and we scored a cracking first and good second goal.

Crewe boss Lee Bell said: “It was quite comfortabl­y our worst performanc­e of the season.”

Colchester 1 Crawley 2

SCOTT LINDSEY believes Crawley’s away form is heading in the right direction. Liam Kelly and Danilo Orsi’s penalty secured victory, with Joe Taylor striking late.

“The away form is something that we’ve addressed. We’ve gone from not having great away form to it now being reasonable,” Lindsey said.

Colchester manager Matthew Etheringto­n said: “I can’t fault the players.”

JOHNNIE JACKSON hailed his AFC Wimbledon players for maintainin­g their winning home run.

Goals from Omar Bugiel and Armani Little put them in control before Ali Al-hamadi’s late brace as the Dons made it six wins in a row at Plough Lane.

Jackson said: “We spoke a lot about trying to start fast, building on the momentum that we’ve created here.

DAVE CHALLINOR admitted his Stockport players were “frustrated because we had enough of the ball to take more from the game”.

A late Kyle Wootton goal earned County a point after the Shrimps had taken the lead through Michael Mellon.

Ged Brannan saluted his “brilliant” Morecambe team, saying: “I can’t do anything but praise the lads for all they did.”

JOHN COLEMAN praised his Accrington side for dealing with the horrendous conditions. Josh Andrews was denied by Rovers keeper Louis Jones, while Harrison Biggins sent a late header against the bar for Doncaster.

Coleman said: “You play the conditions first and the opposition second, both teams do, but I was pleased with the way we handled it.

Grant Mccann said: “It was scrappy, not much football was played.”

MAD SADLER claimed the Saddlers proved what a “fantastic” team they are after a comeback win at Meadow Lane.

The Walsall boss also hailed two-goal hero Oisin Mcentee, adding “we know he has got goals in his game”.

Magpies boss Luke Williams was frustrated by his side’s performanc­e, saying: “In thhe second half, I did not even recognise the team.”
