I can’t put into words the pain of seeing my little girl’s body on TV

Nora’s mum slams ‘shocking’ Malaysian documentary as she calls for fresh probe

NORA Quoirin’s heartbroken mother has again hit out at a Malaysian TV documentary – and called for an independent investigation into her daughter’s death.

Schoolgirl Nora, who had learning difficulties, was found dead in a rainforest holiday resort in August 2019 when she was aged just 15.

Her parents Meabh and Sebastian believed she had been abducted, however Malaysian police went on to treat it as a missing person case, as they found no evidence of foul play.

Her family have vowed never to give up their campaign to expose the truth of what happened to Nora.

Yesterday Meabh again told of her “shock” at the TV documentary, revealing the first she knew about it was four hours before it was broadcast.

She told Brendan O’connor about the lack of critical questions asked and the lack of investigative points raised in the documentary, telling him: “The quality of the programme is pretty bad.”

“Perhaps the most shocking and painful of all was that they actually showed pictures of Nora’s body when they found her.

“Blurred to an extent, but I can’t really put into words the pain and anxiety that floods your body when you see a picture of your little girl like that on national television.”

She added: “Our case was closed from a police point of view

the day we left Malaysia which is absolutely shocking.

“We have ensured that physical evidence, DNA from a human camp right beside where Nora was found, that that evidence will be preserved.

“For us there’s still a lot of unanswered questions, many details remain unexplained... we won’t be able to force Malaysia to do that.

“One day we would like to see the story told through a very different light to that which we saw in that documentary.”

Ms Quoirin revealed that the family received a number of requests to make a documentary after the inquest but had not moved forward with any of them.

But she said: “I was never prepared to allow Malaysia to have the last word. Sebastian and I feel that the world deserves to know as much of the truth as can be found.

“We would consider more investigations under the right circumstances with the right team of people.

“Our view is and has been from almost the moment she disappeared that she was abducted.”

Paying tribute to her daughter she told how she loved Christmas and “would have her letter to Santa sorted, every year she would ask for chocolate”.

She continued: “It was such a privilege to have her as our daughter and that is what we try to focus on every day.”
