Scott to be a win for Irish

-

THE Golden Globe nominations came out this week and we are a triple threat with Barry Keoghan, Cillian Murphy and Andrew Scott shortlisted.

Yep, our Three Musketeers of Irish acting royalty have done us proud and will run against each other in the Best Actor category. How wonderful, crazy and unusual!

Barry has become a good pal over the years, I have followed his career from 2012 onwards and he’s made several appearances on my film show ‘Box Office’ for Virgin Media television.

I’ve introduced Barry and his films to cinema audiences at his premieres, and done Q&AS with him by my side – he’s a true gent. I am a big fan of his work, most notably ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ and his latest, ‘Saltburn’.

With all the odds that were stacked against him, he’s smoked everyone’s prejudices and has cemented his place as one of the brightest acting lights in the firmament.

I love that this hungry underdog at only 31 has Oscar nominations under his belt. Barry once told me that he writes a list of all the people and directors he wants to work with and then strikes them off when he’s done it.

From Yorgos Lanthimos to Martin Mcdonagh, Christopher Nolan and a Marvel Superhero – his list has a touch of magic! Talk about manifestation.

As for the great Cillian Murphy, he is just the epitome of cool and no actor deserves a Golden Globe more. He’s a monumental actor and I’ve seen him perform since his 2001 ‘Disco Pigs’ days, having interviewed him for Dunkirk, Peaky Blinders and many other films.

Oppenheimer is being mooted for a huge run at awards season so here’s hoping Cillian is standing on the stage in LA on January 7.

And finally one of my favourite people, Andrew Scott, who is as down to earth as they come. I was lucky enough to spend an evening with him at the IFTAS and we partied like rock stars.

Andrew is a BAFTA and Olivier Award winner so for him to take to the stage and add a Golden Globe to his mantle would blindside us all!

A fellow Trinity Drama graduate like myself, it’s wonderful to see his star power grow from TV in ‘Fleabag’ and ‘Sherlock’ to his sensational film role in ‘All of Us Strangers’.

It’s special to see the Golden Globes recognise our talent in film... but can we go all the way to the Oscars? Absolutely! Let’s manifest it the Barry way for 2024!
