Contract’s no big deal to Moyesie

DAVID MOYES has insisted there is no “reason to panic“and he would be happy to go until the end of the season without signing a new Hammers contract.

But the West Ham boss claimed such uncertainty is “a different story” for his players.

The former Everton and Manchester United manager returned for a second spell in December 2019 to save the club from relegation before winning a first European trophy in June.

The Hammers have lost one in eight, reached the last 16 of the Europa League and face Liverpool in a Carabao Cup quarter-final this week yet the Scot will be out of contract in a little over six months.

Before hosting Wolves today, Moyes said: “I’m hugely comfortable with it. I’d work with no contract.

“The contract isn’t important for me, it’s enjoying the job and as long as I’m hopefully getting enough wins to keep the board satisfied then that is what I have to do.

“Over the three years we’ve done pretty well. All the way to the summer? No problem.”

But asked about the potential impact of uncertainty over his future on players, Moyes said: “That is a different story. Knowing what is happening and with people in charge is important.

“We’ve got an awful lot of new players as well. There is more change at clubs every year happening. More players changing round because of squad sizes.

“We’ve got a lot of new players who are just getting bedded in really. We made a big change when we lost Declan Rice. We’ve done okay in the last couple of years and the new boys have settled in well.

“I am happy to do it and I’ve got a great relationship with the club so I don’t see any reason to panic about it.

“We’ve got a lot of room to keep the improvement going.”

Moyes said he does not want a new striker in January but added: “We’ve been a bit short on the left.

“Lucas Paqueta, it’s not his position.”
