I made my point with the arrows

- Running with terminal cancer By Kevin Webber Until next week, Kev justgiving.com/fundraising/kevin-webber9

Following my attendance at the PDC World Darts Championship launch last month I was humbled to be invited along to play a nine-dart challenge with my mate Jim on stage at Alexandra Palace to start off one of the rounds.

I’m no darts player and was convinced I’d miss the board – but I managed to get them all in even if there were no 180s.

After I’d thrown I was interviewed on stage and given the chance to talk about why tackling prostate cancer is so important.

Sponsor Paddy Power generously donated £1,000 per 180 scored, and as I write the tournament total is getting close to £1million, which will make a massive difference to men and their families moving forwards.

After my five minutes of fame I watched the matches that afternoon with my youngest, Ollie, my mate Jim and his son Will. It was another priceless memory made along the way, and I hope I made a difference to others who were there too.

I even had the opportunity to get a selfie with singer and telly host Olly Murs, complete with his Bullseye Christmas jumper, who was there for the session.

During the tournament, the now world number one Luke Humphries explained why scoring 180s had even more importance for him as his girlfriend’s father has just had a prostate cancer scare. So he knew that every time he got the top score he not only increased his chance of winning but also doing what he could to support Prostate Cancer UK. By the time he won the final he’d scored an incredible 73 180s and helped push the amount donated by Paddy Power to £914,000 during the tournament.

If you want to know your risk of getting this disease then just type into your browser prostatecanceruk.org/180risk because early detection means better outcomes! And make a resolution to start 2024 doing anything you can to help your health.
