Lock is key

-

ROB EDWARDS expects to be armed with a few tactical nuggets in the Luton dug-out after a visit to catch up with absent skipper Tom Lockyer.

Welsh international Lockyer is currently resting at home as he continues his so-far remarkable recovery from the cardiac arrest he suffered on the pitch at Bournemouth 10 days before Christmas.

Hatters boss Edwards revealed he was making a trip to see his inspirational defender before their third round FA Cup clash with League One highfliers Bolton this afternoon.

And amid plenty of emotional hugs and tears of joy at Lockyer’s incredible progress over the last month, Edwards also reckoned he would be receiving some detailed armchair analysis of Luton’s recent win against Newcastle and defeat to Chelsea.

The Kenilworth Road supremo said: “I’ll definitely get a few pointers and ideas from him and I’m sure that I’ll be getting Tom’s assessment of our games.

“He’s been coming back and texting me after each game and he’s been pretty impressed with how the lads have done. Edwards’ main

message today for his Premier League strugglers, third from bottom and four points from safety, is underestimate Bolton – who are sitting second in the league – at your peril. Ex-aston Villa and Wolves midfielder Edwards, who has never enjoyed a decent run in the competition during his career, added: “We’ve had a couple of cup ties since I came here when we dropped below our usual levels. “They’re warnings we can refer to. I’ve just told the group that we have to be at it against Bolton – because if we’re not, we’ll be out the competition.”
