Our men are stars of the awards.. in style stakes

-

FORGET the women, it’s all about the MEN this awards season. And how delicious and totally fabulous in all their attires they are.

A round of applause for each and every one of them with some of our own including Barry Keoghan, 31, and 47-year-old Cillian Murphy sauntering onto the red carpet of the Golden Globes and Oscar Luncheons as if they OWN the gaff.

Hurrah for playfulness too in terms of the designers with Lenny Kravitz shunning the typical tuxedo and opting for bolder, backless jackets, bright colours and modern fits.

For me it’s far more exciting looking at men’s fashion nowadays – the same old cleavage-baring or no coverage dresses for the women are so passe.

It’s been done to death and it ends up being a bitch-fest of who looked worse than worse. For me, the men are just leagues more exciting.

The couture-inspired design elements are optimum at awards season and it’s lovely to see top actors wearing their style literally on their sleeve. From billowing androgynous vintage 70s shirts to white two-pieces with pocket watches and a cheeky grin, these are far sexier than Salma Hayek in yet another figure hugging Gucci Gown or Jennifer Aniston in black – AGAIN. Snooze…

Let’s hear it for the sassy, stylish, rewritten red carpet dressing in which brands are taking chances with young male stars, and why not? They are the future and their array of standout looks needs to be applauded.

Barry’s red Louis Vuitton get up for the Globes was cool I thought. It’s not really the Saltburn star’s style to dress in Tom Ford regular black classic tuxedo, he’s anything but classic.

He’s quirky and saucy so let his personality shine through in his clothing, and big luxury brands have cottoned onto that. I feel the men have so far outshone the women in every aspect on the red carpet this year. Even Cillian Murphy, below, seemed to be enjoying the hoo-ha of it all doing some pouting and posing and nodding to the cameras – fair play.he doesn’t get to do that in his local Avoca in Monkstown, so you might as well soak it up.

Isn’t it refreshing to see everyone move away from a regular standard dress code, as there is no standard dress code.

Cillian looked fearless at the Globes, as did Andrew Scott and Barry Keoghan. They all seemed to embrace the excitement of gender fluid dressing and storytelling through clothes.

I hope they are as brave at the Oscars g’wan lads, celebrate who you are, be aspirational, be playful and enjoy dressing up ….go full GLAM for your big night.
