Terriers bite back with Helik but fail to land killer blow

- Michal Helik nods in for the Terriers JOHN RICHARDSON

BLACKBURN were back on the boos as Rovers slipped further into trouble in this basement bore.

Huddersfield are already facing a fight to stay up and on this showing, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side will join them in a nervy relegation battle.

Darren Moore’s Terriers had the better chances and at the final whistle that was borne out by the home fans jeering their side, coupled with chants against the Indian-based owners, the Venky’s.

Tomasson said: “It was important that we didn’t lose the game. We know the club is in a difficult situation (financially). We need everyone to stick together.”

Moore said: “We are leaving frustrated feeling like we’ve dropped two points. We need to be more ruthless in front of goal and turn these draws into wins.”

Rovers were gifted their goal, Jonathan Hogg’s wayward pass eagerly seized by Adam Wharton, who strode into the box and calmly prodded past Lee Nicholls.

The young midfielder is on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs with his silky passing – and the composed finish wouldn’t have done his prospects of playing at a higher level any harm.

Composure is something

Blackburn’s defence could do with as once again they were opened up far too easily from a Sorba Thomas corner, Michal Helik allowed a free header to make it 1-1.

It should have been 2-1 to the visitors before the break when a sharp counter-attack saw Josh Koroma set up Jack Rudoni who somehow fired wide. The Terriers should have capitalised on a couple of counterattacks.

First Bojan Radulovic lost out on a one-on-one with Rovers keeper Aynsley Pears, while after another break, David Kasumu spurned the opportunity with an angled shot going past the far post.

Helik came close to showing his side the way to goal with an ambitious volley which gave Pears a scare.
