Funnyman teases potential return for his iconic series and character

PJ Gallagher has hinted that hit RTE show Naked Camera will make a comeback – with talks of a movie.

The comic created a range of characters from Dirty Auld Wan to Jumperman and the infamous Jake Stevens for the hidden camera show.

In 2013 the 48-year-old went on to make a similar show, Trojan Donkey, for Channel 4.

PJ told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “I’ve always said absolutely 100% no.

“But 2024 marks 20 years since Jake Stevens made his first TV appearance, which means next year is 20 years since broadcast.

“I did make a phone call and said, ‘Do you think we could do something about it at some time?’

“So it’s actually possible now.”

The funnyman, who hosts Morning Glory with Jim Mccabe on Radio Nova, said he hasn’t ruled out a movie version of the hit series either.

He added: “I mean, I’d love to do it again.

“I don’t think it’d be the most serious of roles but I’d definitely be into writing the script.”

PJ and his partner Kelly Doolin, 33, welcomed baby twins Milo and Stevie last

August. He admitted that parenthood in his 40s is exhausting.

He said: “They’re draining the energy out of us. That’s what kids do.

“They suck the soul out of you until you don’t have a will to live anymore.

“We’re doing our best but my God, it’s hard. Everyone keeps saying it gets better though – most people I’ve ever met are liars.

“But I’m hoping that this is the one truth that they’ve given me, that eventually, they will actually sleep.”

PJ played principal Barry Walsh in the Young Offenders – which will return for a fourth series in the near future, moving from RTE to the BBC.

He said: “You’ll definitely see it, it just doesn’t look like you’ll see it on RTE. I don’t know what’s happening.”

After being admitted to St Patrick’s Hospital with acute suicide ideation in 2021, PJ said he’s now in a great place.

He said: “The last couple of years have been kind of brilliant.

“I’ve been managing to get the book done, the show on Nova is the first thing I care about.

“I’m getting in there every day, even if I’ve been late a couple of mornings.

“We’ve got the documentary, we did Young Offenders. I’ve nothing to complain about at the minute.

“If anything I want to do less this year and just focus on the radio, but the mood is fantastic.”

I’ve always said no but 2024 marks 20 years since Jake Stevens’ first TV appearance ...so it’s actually possible now
