Sexed up Sainz is no sinner

- REF: By JON WEST

BORJA SAINZ’S late winner saw Norwich snatch top billing in an exciting episode of Sex and the City.

Canaries boss David Wagner angered Coventry before kick-off by claiming the Sky Blues were not the “sexiest team in the Championship”. Wagner insisted afterwards that he had been misinterpreted.

He said: “If there was a misunderstanding I would like to apologise for it.it was not my opinion – it was what people suggested to me. They play top football, sexy football, and totally deserve to be where they are.”

His words certainly helped stoke up the atmosphere – especially when Coventry took the lead three minutes into the second half.

Callum O’hare squeezed between Jack Stacey and Shane Duffy before slotting across Canaries keeper Angus Gunn from six yards.

Wagner sent on Ashley Barnes – and the veteran set up the equaliser.

His shot hit Jamie Allen’s arm but as he appealed for a penalty Josh Sargent rammed home the rebound.

Coventry were up against it in the 71st minute when last man Liam Kitching saw red for bringing Sargent down.

And the 10 men were sunk six minutes from time when Barnes set up Sainz for a cracking curler beyond keeper Bradley Collins.

Coventry manager Mark Robins said: “I can’t help but feel we were hard done by today. To come away from this with nothing was bitterly disappointing.” NORWICH: Gunn 6; Stacey 6, Duffy 6, Gibson 6, Giannoulis 6 (Mccallum (82) 6); Nunez 5 (Barnes (57) 7), Mclean 6; Fassnacht 5 (Hernandez (5) 6), Sara 7, Sainz 7 (Gibbs (90) 6); Sargent 7 (Van Hooijdonk (90) 6) COVENTRY: Collins 6; Van Ewijk 6, Thomas 6, Kitching 5, Bidwell 6 (Dasilva (70) 6); Wright 7, Allen 6, Torp 6 (Eccles (70) 6), Sakamoto 6 (Binks (75) 6); O’hare 7 (Godden (90) 6); Simms 6 (Palmer (76) 6) STAR MAN: Ashley Barnes – Norwich’s veteran striker came off the bench to turn defeat into victory with two assists.
