New Frey-ces are heroes for Marti

-

QPR boss Marti Cifuentes hailed his side’s resilience in grabbing a point from behind against promotionchasing Norwich to extend their unbeaten run to four games.

New boys Michael Frey and Lucas Andersen combined off the bench for Rangers’ second-half equaliser as the Hoops edged closer to climbing out of the drop zone.

Frey’s goal denied Norwich all three points after Kenny Mclean’s low drive and Josh Sargent’s header had overturned an early Rangers lead through Jack Colback.

Cifuentes’ side have now taken eight points from their last four games after ending a dismal eight-game winless streak.

Norwich’s wait to return to the play-off places for the first time since September goes on.

“I can never be happy about a point but it’s true that we played against a team that was strong,” said Cifuentes.

“Today I want to praise the attitude and mentality of the guys.

“It’s the second game we’ve gone behind at home.

It’s not easy to have the mental strength to keep on pushing.”

Having come off the bench soon after the hour, new signing Andersen caught the Norwich defence napping at a quick throw-in, before delivering a pinpoint cross for Frey to convert his first Rangers goal.

“Credit to their ball boy because this quick throw-in was made by him,” said Norwich manager David Wagner. “At the end of the day, we’re a little bit frustrated that we haven’t won this game because that was possible.” QPR: Begovic 7; Cannon 7, Cook 6, Clarke-salter 7, Paal 6; Colback 7, Hayden 6 (Dykes (86) 5); Willock 6 (Smyth (66) 6), Hodge 7 (Andersen (66) 7), Chair 7 (Elijah Dixon-bonner (90) 5); Armstrong 6 (Frey (66) 7) NORWICH: Gunn 6; Stacey 7 (Sorensen (69) 6), Hanley 6, Gibson 6, Giannoulis 6 (Mccallum (86) 5); Mclean 7, Sara 7; Fassnacht 6 (Rowe (59) 6), Barnes 6, Sainz 6 (Hernandez (86) 5); Sargent 7 (Nunez (69) 6) STAR MAN: Josh Sargent - A constant menace in attack for Norwich and bagged a well-earned goal REF: Ben Toner 7
