Shining star Seren whipped up a storm with her arrival

-

iIT was a Valentine’s Day I’ll always cherish, the announcement of our beautiful baby daughter Seren Laura and the heartfelt congratulations and warmest well wishes that followed were nothing short of incredible.

I’m still reading them and will endeavour to read every single one. I was humbled by all those I know and those I don’t who kindly reached out across all means to write to me to say that it was wonderful happy news and they were delighted for us.

Pat Kenny also made an announcement on Newstalk. I work with Pat on Wednesdays on his radio show this past year so I was dead proud of the mention especially as it was something so special and it just happened to fall on Valentine’s Day.

It was touching to hear from people, some of whom I’ve known for 30 years old Trinity college pals, colleagues, family friends of my parents and travelling wilburys from overseas to share in their delight of her safe and heathy arrival.

Her Welsh name Seren seems to be a lovely talking point too and thankfully people think it’s a beautiful name as do we. I can’t take any credit for it, as it was all Richard who had spoke about the celestial name to me 12 years ago long before we were married. It’s virtually unknown elsewhere.

Only registered in the 1940s it has a fascinating history. Seren meaning a star in the Welsh language, is derived from Serenity and Serendipity which I believe in very much.

With all the serendipitous forces of nature around her it really feels like a very apt name. Seren made her birthday unforgettable when she arrived during a tempestuous storm at seven minutes to seven which is considered a lucky number and she will now always be the brightest star in the firmament.

A star was literally born on January 22. They always shine their light wherever they go and are tremendously powerful and pretty so we felt it was lyrical, beautiful and a poignant name.

My mother Laura was always going to be a part of the story book and tapestry of her life. Seren is named after her also; so she holds a proud and noble name and my mother, whom I adored, will always be with me and my daughter too.

Our guiding star.
