- Derry

3-17 Monaghan 0-13

BY PADDY TIERNEY THREE goals from three defenders and another Shane Mcguigan masterclass ensured Derry remain unbeaten after a 13-point rout of Monaghan at Celtic Park.

Conor Mccluskey, Padraig Mcgrogan and Conor Doherty all found the net while All Star attacker Mcguigan (inset) grabbed 0-11, including five points from play.

Jack Mccarron did his best to halt the Derry juggernaut, kicking 0-7 for the

Farney who lost Ryan Mcanespie and Stephen O’hanlon to injury in the first half. After guiding Derry to their third successive Division One victory, jubilant Derry boss Mickey Harte paid tribute to Mcguigan’s heroics. “He is an exceptional player,” said Harte. “We didn’t need tonight to tell us that but his accuracy was critical too because some of his early scores were tough kicks. “You could miss them just as easily as score them. He had a dead-eye tonight and was just super.
