LAWYERS CLAIM MADDIE SUSPECT’S CELL BUGGED
A SEX crimes trial against the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine Mccann could be jeopardised amid claims his cell was bugged.
Lawyers for convicted sex offender Christian Bruecker, 47, told a court in Germany that investigators had secretly wiretapped his prison room.
Paedophile Brueckner appeared at court in Braunschweig on Friday where he denied a number of sex attacks in Portugal between 2007 and 2017.
One of the cases is that of Dubliner Hazel Behan, an Irish holiday rep who he’s accused of attacking in June 2004.
The prosecution claims she was so
terrified of Brueckner, who allegedly tied her legs to a table before raping her, that she feared he would “cut her head off ”.
Prosecutors said during the alleged assault Brueckner taunted: “You are afraid of me aren’t you?” before whipping her. The court is not dealing with the case of Madeleine, who disappeared from a Praia da Luz apartment in 2007.
Now Brueckner’s lawyers believe they have uncovered evidence that may derail his trial on sex offences including three counts of rape and two of sexual abuse of children. A former employee of
Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office has claimed she was involved in the process of installing bugging technology.
The woman said she has photos to prove it, according to T-online, and said two BKA officers told her they had a “personal score” to settle with Brueckner.
During his opening statement in court, defence solicitor Friedrich Fulscher claimed there was an “ulterior motive” for Brueckner’s sex crimes trial.
He added: “The greatest challenge for the court in these proceedings will be to free itself from these ulterior motives when investigating the procedural truth and assessing the evidence with regard to the accusations levelled.”
