Bulut happy as Perry adds fizz to training ground work

- By RICHARD LATHAM

EROL BULUT saluted his side’s amazing potency at set-pieces after Perry Ng’s second-half header had given Cardiff City bragging rights from a low-key Severnside derby.

The defender took advantage of slack marking to head home David Turnbull’s left-wing corner on 66 minutes and settle a forgettable mid-table Championship clash.

It was the 17th time Cardiff had netted from a set-piece this season and boss Bulut said: “We work so hard on them in training. It wasn’t the first corner Perry has scored from.

“We have different routines and have become very effective, which is down to the players and the work they put in. It was a game when the first goal was always going to be crucial and we deserved the win.”

Bristol City had the ball in the net in the dying minutes but substitute Tommy Conway’s close- range finish after Ethan Horvarth had saved a Rob Dickie header had been ruled out for offside.

Other than that, the Robins rarely threatened and were booed off after slipping to a third successive defeat without scoring a goal.

Head coach Liam Manning said: “I have a thick skin so the booing doesn’t bother me.

“What does is that we lacked quality in the final third and that has been the story of our season.” BRISTOL CITY: O’leary 6; Mccrorie 6, Vyner 6, Dickie 7, Roberts 6 (Pring (81) 6); King 6 (Mehmeti (61) 6), Williams 7: Gardner-hickman 6; Knight 7 (Cornick (81) 6), Sykes 6 (Mebude (81) 6); Wells 6 (Conway (61) 6) CARDIFF: Hovarth 7; Ng 8, Goutas 7, Phillips 7, Wilson-esbrand 6 (Collins (77) 6); Siopis 7, Ralls 6 (Wintle (64) 6), Bowler 6 (Tanner (64) 6), Turnbull 7, Colwill 7 (O’dowda (77) 6); Etete 6 (Meite (51) 6) STAR MAN: Perry Ng – The Cardiff right-back defended well and proved his side’s match-winner.
