O’dowda’s late, late show ruins Moore’s return
IPSWICH’S Kieffer Moore looked to have made the perfect return to his old club with what everyone thought was going to be the match winner in the 79th minute.
But nobody predicted 10 minutes of added time, largely down to a clash of heads between Moore and Dimitrios Goutas in the second half that left the Wales striker with a nasty gash above his right eye.
No sooner had Moore departed to a heroic reception from the 3,500 travelling Ipswich fans with two minutes of actual time left to play than his former Cardiff teammates conjured up a very special finish to wipe out his goal.
“It was a good goal from Kieffer, but it wasn’t enough,” said Bluebirds’ boss Erol Bulut after seeing Callum O’dowda set up an equaliser for Ryan Wintle in the 95th minute before scoring the winner in the 100th-winner.
“Maybe that was the best performance of the season. I never stopped believing we could change the game.
“The players were fully concentrated from start to finish. They believe in the way we are playing and now their confidence is high.”
It was a double string in the tail for promotion chasing Ipswich. Earlier in the week they got out of jail against Bristol City with an 89th-minute winner. But four days later the boot was on the other foot.
The fourth official indicated eight minutes of added time, but the winner came two minutes later and left Ipswich boss Kieran Mckenna puzzled. “If the game had finished at 90 minutes we would have been talking about a real strong away performance, but it didn’t end there and in the last 10 minutes we weren’t able to do what we needed to do,” said Mckenna.
“The fact it went over eight minutes I haven’t considered, although I think timekeeping has been a bit erratic and inconsistent this year. There are times when it seems to be really high and others when it seems to be lower.”
