Tanganga leaves it late to steal Lions’ share for Harris

- By PAUL BROWN

JAPHET TANGANGA kept the Lions roaring under Neil Harris with a last-gasp winner his manager called “priceless”.

The Tottenham loanee’s last-minute header from a corner made it 10 points from 12 for Millwall since club legend Harris returned to the hotseat.

But it left relegation rivals Birmingham with only one point from 12 under Mark Venus.

Harris, in his second stint as Millwall boss, said: “Japhet comes up with a moment to win us the game and it was a priceless moment. That is so Millwall.

“Finding a way to win a game is what this club has always been about.

“We were resilient, hung in there and we found a way.”

On Tuesday it was Birmingham scoring late to rescue a point at Hull. This time, they were on the other end of late drama.

Millwall started brightly with Jake Cooper seeing a hooked volley saved and Duncan Watmore going close.

But Lions keeper Matija Sarkic had to be at full stretch to deny Jay Stansfield before half-time.

Stansfield then missed badly from close range as Birmingham dominated.

So it was left to Tanganga to make Birmingham pay with a free header from a George Saville corner in the final minute.

Brum boss Venus said: “Every team has been a threat against us from set-pieces. We need to learn quickly.” MILLWALL: Sarkic 6; Leonard 7, Tanganga 8, Cooper 6, Bryan 5; Honeyman 5, Mitchell 6, Saville 7, Watmore 5 (Longman (60) 6); Flemming 6, Obafemi 5 (Hutchison (90) 5) BIRMINGHAM: Ruddy 6; Drameh 5, M Roberts 6, Aiwu 6, Buchanan 6; Sunjic 7 (James (83) 5), Paik 7; Miyoshi 6 (Hall (73) 5), Pritchard 5 (Jutkiewicz (83) 5), Bacuna 5; Stansfield 7 STAR MAN: Japhet Tanganga - Made key contributions.
