Sainz in high five as Millers mauled
DAVID WAGNER felt Borja Sainz being cleared to play helped Norwich put on a five-star show over Rotherham.
The Canaries forward, 23, saw a four-game ban overturned after seeing red at Middlesbrough last week.
He scored in yesterday’s rout that puts them in the play-off positions.
And head coach Wagner reckoned both player and team reacted in the best way possible.
He said: “Borja himself was very sad and angry after Boro but 48 hours later he was super, super happy – maybe the most happy man on the planet after myself.
“It gave us a massive boost as we found out about it before training on Friday. How he then reacted today was so focused and sharp, defensively and offensively. It was a top class performance and a fantastic afternoon.”
Norwich were comfortable throughout and took a 13th-minute lead through a Gabriel Sara free header.
Jacob Sorensen doubled the lead on 21 minutes when he flicked home a
Sainz corner, before the Spaniard unleashed a curler.
Josh Sargent got in on the act in first-half injury time while Sara volleyed home his second – and the Norwich fifth – a minute after the break.
Bottom side Rotherham were thumped by five goals in as many days and manager Leam Richardson took responsibility.
He said: “I take full blame, it’s been a horrendous week for everyone involved, myself included. I feel physically sick for the fans who have travelled to Coventry and Norwich.” NORWICH: Gunn 6; Stacey 8, Nunez 7 (Gibbs (68) 6), Gibson 7 (Batth (46) 6), Mccallum 7; Sara 8, Mclean 7 (Fassnacht (51) 6); Sorensen 7, Barnes 7 (Aboh (81) 5), Sainz 9; Sargent 7 (Van Hooijdonk (51) 6) ROTHERHAM: Johansson 6; Kioso 5, Humphreys 4, Odoffin 4; Revan 5, Morrison 4 (Appiah (57) 4), Tiehi 5, Clucas 4 (Lindsay (85) 4) ,Rathbone 5 (Nombe (57) 5); Wyke 4 (Rinomhota (46) 5), Eaves 4 (Hugill (57) 5) STAR MAN: Borja Sainz – The Spaniard put in a top display.
