DRAG queen Blu Hydrangea has revealed their biggest fan base is grannies watching Dancing With The Stars.

The Belfast star, aka Joshua Cargill, said older women are flocking to voice their support.

Blu, 28, said: “Before this, my audience was very much queer. As the weeks have gone on, we’ve found more little old ladies coming up to us.

“That’s exactly the reason that I’m doing this because of visibility for someone like me.

“I think it would be gorgeous for this to open people’s minds a bit more, just so that we feel safer.”

Blu scored a perfect 30 for the third time last week and said having Leo Varadkar in their corner is flattering.

The Taoiseach admitted he’s a fan of the show and backed Blu to lift the glitterball trophy in tonight’s final.

Blu said: “It’s pretty fabulous. I saw him backstage a few weeks ago, and he was doing some moves.” Blu is now hungry to win, declaring: “I might as well try to aim for it as we put the work in.

“I will be the first ever drag queen winner of Dancing With The Stars or Strictly in the whole world.

“Being on DWTS has made me believe I am worthy of the success I’ve found.

“I use the make-up process to gear myself up. When Blu is in costume there’s a performance side that comes out.”

Blu and pro partner Simone Arena, 32, will repeat their contemporary ballroom dance to Tattoo for tonight’s final.

The other finalists, Laura Fox, Jason Smyth and David Whelan, will also choose their favourite dance.

The Riverdance cast will be tapping their way on to the dancefloor to mark 30 years since their Eurovision debut.

Dancing With The Stars is on RTE One tonight at 7pm and on RTE Player.
