Senate chair asks for office mirror to ‘check his tie’
SENATE chair Jerry Buttimer requested a “small mirror” in his office so he could look his best in Leinster House, documents reveal.
The Cathaoirleach of the Seanad asked for a mirror “to check his tie before chamber duty” when overseeing meetings.
The request was one of several from Senator Buttimer who also asked for his office to be painted and replacement coffee tables.
An internal email released under FOI asked: “There is a hunting table that is either in the ballot store or in basement [of Kildare House]. Please replace with the table in this office.”
Dail Ceann Comhairle Sean O Fearghail flagged a problem with the
Senate chair Jerry asked for a mirror heating noting: “Radiators aren’t working in this office. Tried to turn them on but no luck.”
Housing Minister Darragh O’brien asked that a pair of antlers be erected in his Leinster House office. An email advised: “[Oireachtas staff member] recommendation is that the base should be at least 1.9m above the floor, so it creates no risk of injury.”
Sinn Fein’s Chris Andrews had a troublesome TV and remote control that he wanted replaced after it had been broken “for some time”.
Mr Andrews also complained of extreme heat noting: “[It] can become quite unbearable.” There were requests for artwork to be hung – politicians cannot do the work themselves for health and safety reasons.
Staff were afraid even to change a clock. Senator Catherine Ardagh’s team said: “Sorry for bothering you with this small task but is there any chance someone from facilities could change the batteries in the clock?”
