FORTH SEAL DEAL

-

FORTH CELTIC claimed a dramatic Wexford and District Schoolboys Football League Under-11 Division 1 crown against St. Joseph’s on Thursday.

The Murrintown boys needed just a point to secure the title and took the lead when Evan Kelly scored the opener.

However, St. Joseph’s have enjoyed a great season and were looking to claim the league after losing the cup final to the same opposition.

The Kilmuckridge club did go 2-1 ahead in the second-half but a late brace from Mark Hennessy saw Celtic complete the double in style.

A dramatic final week in Un- der-11 Division 1A saw New Ross Town draw first blood on Wednesday evening when they beat rivals New Ross Celtic to take the initiative in the title race.

Just three days later the reverse fixture took place to decide the crown.

Again it was Town who came out on top, 2-1 this time, to finish five points ahead of Moyne in second. Meanwhile, a play-off is due in Division 3A between Curracloe United ‘B’ and New Ross Town ‘B’ as both sides finished on 39 points after 14 games.

St. Joseph’s are the Under-12 Division 1 champions after a hardfought victory over Wexford Albion. Their win means they finish a dramatic season just three points ahead of Wexford Celtic, the team which took the Under-11 title last year.

Fethard Rangers claimed a massive three points away to Shamrock Rovers in Under-12 Division 2 last week.

The result meant the seasiders only needed to avoid defeat in the reverse fixture last night (Monday) to take the winners’ trophy.

Under-13 Division 3 came to a massively dramatic ending on Thursday when the league play-off between Corach Ramblers and Rosslare Strand went to penalties. In the end the seasiders won it 3-0 on spot-kicks to complete a fantastic season.

Gorey Rangers were just a point away from the title in Under-14 Division 1 at the time of writing. They secured a strong away point against title rivals North End during the week and therefore needed just a draw against St. Leonards last night (Monday) to secure the league and cup double.

Meanwhile, in Division 1A Wexford Albion won the second place play-off against Bree United and they finish behind Campile United.

Finally, Bridge Rovers are the Under-16 Division 3 winners. The Bogside boys just needed to avoid defeat to finish their Wexford and District Schoolboys careers in style but they did a little better, winning 4-1 in Camolin to wrap up the title.
