WEXFORD COUNTY badminton held their annual awards night in the Horse and Hound, Ballinaboola, recently.

This was the pinnacle of the season with awards being presented to all winners and runners-up in the county championships, mixed league, shield, knockout and the four-person ladies’ and gents’ league.

Club of the year was awarded to Terrerath at the end of an outstanding season. A special award was presented to Aine Crowe, Evan Byrne and Clodagh Dunne on recognition of their selection on the Irish team in their respective age groups.

Clodagh Dunne and Paddy Nolan were also honoured by their own club for winning national titles during the year. The highlight of the night was the much-anticipated recipients of male and female player of the year, with a great deal of speculation going on throughout the busy season.

The nominees for female player of the year were Chantal Rowe, Martina Cogley and Margaret O’Regan, who all had impeccable and successful seasons. The honour went to Martina Cogley.

The nominees for male player of the year were Craig Healy, Patrick O’Regan and Shane Kehoe, who all had fantastic seasons. The honour went to Patrick O’Regan.

Well done to all winners and runners-up who put in great stamina and commitment throughout the year. We would like to thank the Horse and Hound, county Chairman Jimmy Butler for presenting all the awards and his hard work throughout the year, Laura Lynch who was M.C., and all league and tournament officials.

A big thanks to D.J. Craig Healy for keeping the tunes hopping. We hope to see all the familiar faces and hopefully some new ones when the new season begins in September.
