U16s all set for Limerick

-

THIS COMING weekend will see the Wexford Schoolgirls League Under-16 squad travel to the University of Limerick for the FAI Gaynor Cup.

A lot of hard work has been put in by manager Mick Bennett and his team of coaches over the past number of months to ensure the team is as ready for this competition as possible.

No detail has been too small as the management team, aided by a very well-organised parents’ committee, have done all possible to ensure the players are as well prepared for this tournament as possible.

Thursday evening will see the girls open their campaign with a tricky clash against Longford, a small league who always seem to perform well on the bigger stage.

Friday morning will see Wexford take on Cork. Both sides will have ambitions of coming out of this group and this would be one of the key games.

A long break follows until Saturday morning when Mayo are the opposition at 11.30 a.m., and the group stage will finish that afternoon when Wexford take on local rivals Waterford at 4.30 p.m.

As groups go this is one of the toughest in the competition and will be difficult to come out of, but this Wexford squad is filled with talented players who are very capable of rising to the occasion.

The top team in the group goes through to the semi-final of the cup competition, while the runners-up will contest the plate competition, with these games being played on Sunday.

All involved in Wexford soccer would like to wish Mick, his coaches and players the very best of luck and we have no doubt that no matter what happens, they will do the league proud.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all who have supported and sponsored this squad, and a link has been set up on www.wexfordwomenssoccer. com thanking all those sponsors.
