TalbotSuites soontohost UEFAqualifiers
THE new Talbot Suites at Stonebridge will welcome the UEFA Women’s Champions League Qualifiers this summer in what is the first corporate booking for the property.
This August, over 150 players, management and officials will descend on Wexford town for a week of training and matches and the majority will stay in the 73 self-catering apartments at Paul Quay. Some of the officials will also stay in the original Talbot hotel for the course of their Wexford visit. As official accommodation partner for the UEFA Women’s Champions League Qualifiers, the Talbot Hotel will also provide the guests with food in the nearby hotel and use of the Quay Leisure Centre during their stay.
Group Managing Director of The Talbot Collection, Philip Gavin welcomed the news of the visit.
‘It’s fantastic news for both the Talbot and for Wexford,’ he said. ‘We welcomed our first guests to Talbot Suites at Stonebridge this week and are already seeing that self-catering accommodation in Wexford Town is much sought after. We hope that we can bring many more events like UEFA Champions League to Wexford with the additional accommodation available.’
Management at the Talbot sister properties are crediting this business boost to Wexford Youths, who they say did their best to bring the qualifiers to the South East. Last year, the club approached the Talbot in a bid to bring the 2015 qualifiers to Wexford but as it was prior to the completion of the new Stonebridge development, the Talbot group did not have enough room to accommodate them. This year, Wexford Youths approached the Talbot group once again and succeeded in securing their accommodation.
In light of the news, Talbot staff extended their best wishes to members of the club for the coming months and said they are looking forward to welcoming them and the international teams to Wexford this August.
The news comes days after the Talbot Suites at Stonebridge received their first guest on Sunday. According to Mr Gavin, bookings are going well so far.
‘ The bookings have far exceeded expectations and we are very happy with the response and enquiries received up until the end of the year and beyond,’ he said.
Last month, Ballycanew native Suzanne Furlong took on the role of General Manager of the complex following a five year stint as manager of Pettitts SuperValu in Arklow. It is a return to familiarity for Suzanne, who has worked in Kelly’s Hotel, Marlfield House, Ashdown Park, The Westbury and several international hotels.
